Globenomics
Privacy & Cookies
Last updated 13 August 2026
Por ahora esta página solo está disponible en inglés. Si tienes cualquier duda, escríbenos y te contestamos en español.
The short version
- Globenomics is free and you do not need an account to use any of the data, the globe or the games.
- We do not sell your data, we do not run ads, and we do not build advertising profiles.
- Analytics is off until you turn it on. If you decline, we still count anonymous page activity, but nothing is stored on your device to recognise you next time.
- Your game streaks and scores live in your own browser. If you are not signed in they are not uploaded and we cannot see them. If you sign in, they are also saved to your account so they survive a lost browser and follow you to other devices.
- We never record what you type into the country search — only how many characters it was and whether it found anything.
You have not made a choice yet.
Who is responsible
Globenomics is an independent project, not a company with a marketing department. The person who runs it is the data controller for everything described here.
For any privacy question — including a request to see, correct or delete your data — write to globenomics.review@gmail.com. We answer in English, Russian, Portuguese or Spanish.
What we collect, and why
1. Analytics — only if you allow it
If you accept analytics, we record which pages and countries get opened, which rankings and games get used, how long each screen is looked at, your language, and whether you are on a phone, tablet or desktop. Our analytics providers also derive an approximate location (typically city or region level) from your IP address.
The purpose is narrow and honest: we are trying to learn which parts of this site are worth continuing to build. There is no profile, no scoring, no resale.
If you decline, Google Analytics is told not to store anything and sends nothing. PostHog keeps running in memory-only mode: we still see that a page was opened, but the identifier is regenerated on every page load, nothing is written to your device, and you cannot be recognised across visits.
Legal basis: your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time using the button above or “Cookie settings” in the menu, with no effect on the site’s usefulness.
2. Your account — only if you create one
You can use everything without signing in. If you do create an account, we store your email address and an encrypted password via our authentication provider, so that you can sign back in. Legal basis: performance of a contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)).
If you play games while signed in, we also store your game records (best scores, streaks, completion times) with your account, so they follow you across browsers and devices. Legal basis: performance of a contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)).
We only email you about your account — confirming your address, resetting your password, security, or a material change to these terms. There is no newsletter and no marketing list. If one ever exists, it will ask you separately and you will have to opt in.
3. Things kept on your device
Some things are stored in your browser because the site cannot work sensibly without them — your chosen language, your cookie decision itself, and your game progress. These are not used for tracking. Your game progress: if you are not signed in, it stays on your device and is not sent anywhere; if you sign in, your game records are also synced to your account. Storing your cookie decision is specifically permitted without consent, because remembering “no” is the only way to honour “no”.
4. Guessing your country and language
Globenomics uses your IP address to guess your country and preferred language. The guess is made when your request reaches our servers and is not stored or logged. Your base country and language preference are saved in your browser’s local storage and are never sent to us.
Exactly what is stored on your device
| Name | What it is for | Needs consent | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
| gn_consent | Your cookie decision, so you are not asked again | No — essential | Until you clear it |
| globonomics_lang | The language you chose, so pages render in it immediately | No — essential | 1 year |
| gn-locale | The interface language you picked, so your choice wins over auto-detection | No — essential | Until you clear it |
| gn-base-country | Your base country, so figures are compared against it | No — essential | Until you clear it |
| gn-base-country-prompt, gn-locale-hint-dismissed | Remembers you answered or dismissed the country / language prompt, so it stops asking | No — essential | Until you clear it |
| gn-games:* | Game progress, streaks, personal bests. Uploaded only if you are signed in | No — you asked to play | Until you clear it |
| globonomics:pro-teaser-dismissed | Remembers you dismissed the Pro card, for 7 days | No — essential | 7 days |
| gn_session_count, gn_session_active | Counts your visits, so we can tell new from returning | Yes | Until you clear it |
| _ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics — distinguishes visitors | Yes | Up to 2 years |
| ph_* | PostHog — distinguishes visitors. Memory-only if you decline | Yes | Up to 1 year |
| sb-*-auth-token | Supabase auth session — keeps you signed in. Only present if you have an account | No — strictly necessary | Until you sign out |
You can delete all of these at any time through your browser’s settings. Doing so will also reset your game streaks, because that is where they live.
Who else processes it
We use a small number of providers, each acting on our instructions. We do not sell or share your data with anyone else.
- PostHog — product analytics, hosted in the European Union (eu.i.posthog.com). Session recording and autocapture are switched off.
- Google Analytics 4 — audience measurement (Google Ireland Limited). We run it in Consent Mode with advertising storage permanently denied.
- Supabase — accounts and game records, hosted in the EU (Frankfurt), acting as our processor. Only for people who create an account.
- Cloudflare — serves the site and processes connection data such as your IP address in order to deliver pages and block abuse.
Some of these providers may process data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where that happens it is covered by the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard.
What we deliberately do not collect
- The text you type into the country search. Only its length and whether it matched.
- Precise location. Nothing on this site asks for GPS.
- Anything about you for advertising. We run no ads and no ad cookies, ever.
- Payment details. There is nothing to buy.
How long we keep it
Analytics data is retained by our providers for up to 14 months and then deleted or aggregated. Device storage lasts as long as the table above says, or until you clear it. Account data is kept until the account is deleted.
Deleting your account, and taking your data with you
You can delete your account at any time from the account menu. Deletion is processed immediately: your account and the associated server-side game records are permanently deleted. Records saved in your browser are not touched by this — they are on your device, and you can clear them through your browser like anything else.
The same menu has a Download my data button. It gives you everything stored with your account as a JSON file, which is what GDPR Art. 15 and Art. 20 entitle you to, without writing to us first.
Your rights
If you are in the EU or UK you have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how it is used, to receive a copy in a portable form, and to withdraw consent at any time. Two of those are buttons in the account menu rather than requests — see above. For anything else, email globenomics.review@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days.
You also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority if you think we have handled your data badly.
Children
Globenomics is suitable for all ages, but it is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. Accounts are not required to use anything.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect, we update this page and the date at the top. If the change affects what you agreed to, the cookie banner will ask you again rather than assuming your earlier answer still stands.
